Greek Inflatable Boat Racing Championship 2009

Innovation earned

Racing: The Ultimate Test for Our Hulls

At Olympic RIBs, we believe that a boat's true value is revealed under the most demanding conditions. Instead of relying solely on simulations and basic sea trials, we made a strategic decision from the very beginning: to test our new hull designs in the real-world intensity of offshore racing.

In 2009, in collaboration with MEKY, we developed our first stepped offshore racing hull and entered the Greek inflatable boat racing championship. From the first race with OLYMPIC RIBS as the main sponsor in Rhodes, our design proved its strength, speed, and balance — securing second place in the CIRCUIT - RIB EXTRA SPORT 300 hp category.

The following round of the championship, held in Leros, brought even more clarity to the robustness of our design. In a challenging 50-nautical-mile offshore endurance race — a true test of both boat and crew — we achieved third place in the OFFSHORE - EXTRA SPORT 300 hp class. It was a strong confirmation that our design foundation was built for authentic, harsh offshore conditions.

These early races provided us with invaluable data. We used the insights to fine-tune critical elements of the boat’s performance:
– Modifying the spray rails on the hull
– Enhancing the aerodynamic profile of the deck
– Reevaluating the distribution of onboard loads

These targeted adjustments aimed to push performance even further — and their impact would soon be revealed in the next race.

This successful foundation led to the creation of our first production model built on this hull: the Olympic 840 Diamond. Since then, the experience and knowledge gained from racing continue to shape the entire SR Series of Olympic RIBs.

By investing in racing before entering production, we ensured:

  • Proven seakeeping in real offshore conditions
  • Reliable performance under pressure
  • Cutting-edge design, tested where it truly matters

At Olympic RIBs, every innovation is earned — and tested — at sea.
